The day started out very cold, 27degrees at 7am
and ended up still cold in the 40's. It was a cold,
clear, sunny day which usually makes for a tough
outing on the water. As usual in a tournament format,
someone always manages to catch some good fish despite adverse conditions. 99 teams met to compete on the inaugural season event at Portage Lakes. A total of 112 bass were weighed for a total weight of 209.20lbs. An average size of 1.86lbs. All fish were treated and released alive. There was only 2 six fish limits weighed. Exactly 1/2 of the field caught fish. The other half had a nice day on the water. There were 15 places paid and 3 Big Bass prizes for the event. Winning patterns included throwing small crankbaits toweed flats in 7 to 8ft of water. Others reportedcatching some fish on jigs in deeper, structureportions of the lake.
